Turkish and international schools joined forces for collaboration in combating climate change
Teachers from each other gathered at a Climate Change Workshop held at Salamanca University in Spain from December 12-14. Participating in the Erasmus+ project titled "Climate without Borders; The key to achieving a clean and healthy environment," the school collaborated with partner schools from Turkey, Poland, Greece, and Germany.
On the first day of the program, a presentation on new developments in climate change research and nature's contributions to society took place. The project partners introduced their schools, presented the climate characteristics of their countries, and provided information about Salamanca University and the city's local culture. The second day focused on discussions about adapting to climate change in urban and rural areas and exploring nature-based solutions to reduce these changes. Discussions on current environmental issues included sharing new developments in climate change and addressing solutions for urban and rural areas. Discussions framed around the question "What does nature bring us?" encouraged participants to express their thoughts and propose solutions.
The third and final day of the program featured seminars on entrepreneurial solutions to environmental problems, the meaning of the ecosystem concept, solutions to climate change in urban and rural areas, and how to build a city in harmony with nature.
Participants visited Salamanca University's 'Green Office,' which develops scientific and practical applications related to the environment and agriculture. Different perspectives on the question "What is climate change?" showcased various thought movements.
The "Climate without Borders" project emphasizes a connection that transcends national boundaries in addressing climate issues. The project aims to foster collaboration among individuals, communities, and nations worldwide to achieve a clean and healthy environment. The project's goals include encouraging students to produce positive outcomes, calculating carbon footprints, and learning about alternative energy sources. By motivating young people to be entrepreneurial in addressing climate change, the project aims to cultivate thought leaders capable of presenting solutions at international meetings. The involvement of teachers from Mehmetçik Anatolian High School is regarded as a significant step in creating awareness and generating solutions for climate change.
